One thing that employer should know that it is not really easy to replace an employee. Especially when he/she taking an important role to the company. Yes, those words are obvious and everybody knows that. So, what the employer usually do to make a good replacement?. Well, usually the junior will have to sit several hours to work with the-wanna-leave-employee to teach the junior few things to work on the company.
This kind of example is actually trying to mention that Tacit Knowledge (TK) is transferable to a certain extend. At least, if we agree that the above paragraph is similar with TK. The knowledge that Mr. J has probably is common knowledge he get from somewhere else that has only inform Mr. J to act as it is written in company procedure.
One thing to have in mind that employee is not a robot that act based on written procedure or we may called Explicit Knowledge (EK). There are other lots of things to teach or transfer to Mr. J to done the work and do the replacement smoothly and unfortunately, this can’t be done by giving Mr. J a set of company SOP and Code of Conduct.
Kind a stupid expectation to see Mr. J as Mr. Bright-who-knows-everything and let him to run the job. No way mister! Those expectation is wrong. Even when you do your aw esome assessment to Mrs. Carly Fiona. I bet it was a very good assessment with some flying colors that makes you hire her. Well, that do you get? You get somebody that is not running in the same lane with your ideas but you did expect her to be one. Well, I think somebody should tell her which lane she should stays.
