What you hold on?
by David Sudjiman ~ March 19th, 2005. Filed under: Xclusive.I think I’m not the person who can play ignorance with some words that people usually come out with. Nor I would have an instant justification by saying back which I don’t think that would be a good idea. I learn that sometimes ignorance is a bliss. That’s why usually the earplug will be good to filter out the noises and even people and keep things in my head inside.
I’ve been thinking people saying “If you’re happy, then do it!”. Well, I can’t say that. Not that easily.
I believe, through my own experience, we justify what we do not by using social norm. Well, at least we did, but not in current days. Now, unfortunately, we choose to justify what we do by feeling. Happy or not happy. Surprise?
Or this is just another ignorance bliss that we would like to avoid to interfere people life, even when they’re asking our opinion. Would we dare to give our opinion, evem when it will show that they are wrong?
This is real life with real problem. We grow up by what we think they best fit into and rely upon. Sad but true, we, not all of us, that grow up with inappropriate environment. I can’t say a bad environment because bad is relative. Inappropriate environment tend to mold us according to its own picture. If we live up with bad people, there are more chances that we will learn the way bad people learn.
I remembered when I was hearing a conversation between a little girl and her mum. The little girl asking about the word ‘avoid’ to her mum. She replied with a deploringly example. I can’t precisely recalled what she answered, but I think I got the idea that she was saying that the word avoid is like when you hate someone and you don’t want to see him/her, that’s called ‘to avoid’.
I hope that someday, through certain experience, some of us will get their own enlightenment on what they are holding on. Some people are holding on to their friends, Money, power, incisiveness, and religion.
Friends and the people around us. This is the most easiest way to influence our opinion. Obviously, when we get trouble, we tend to ask the nearest person in ourlife. Like parents (or probably not anymore), brother/sister, best friends, or at least a person we can trust most. What if the person we asked is acctually the wrong person? What will we get? Yes, I know that we won’t ask to a wrong person but how do we know that we are asking to a right person with right opinion? Who is the person that makes us a drug addict? who is the person that told us that cheating is fine? who is the person that told us that it is not right to be a drug addict? Who is the person that told us it is not fine to cheat? True friends never want to see us in pain nor they will lead you to the wrong way. True friends never lie, they will say if we are wrong.
Money. This one is not as powerful as friends, but this one can buy ‘friends’. Sometimes we trying to justify our judgement using money. We are sometimes get more confidence because we have the money and seems that we can buy the decission using our money. We are sometimes thinking that if we lose something because of our decission then we think we can buy another opportunity and redo it. Seems obvious?
Power. Yes, this is the scariest one if we take decission based on power. What do you think you would do if you are God? Remember Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty. Do you get that one? Who will be your consiousness if you are the most consious person? Maybe I exagerate the example. Alright, lets take another example. What about when we were a kid and we were joining a gang, probably the most coolest gang in our school. Suddenly, our friend who is not in the gang get bullied, by us! Have we ever do that? Or another example, when we work on an important position and someone need our help. Will we help him/her or we would rather waiting to be pleased before we help?
Incisiveness. When we are smart, or at least we think we are, how many times we feel we need advice from another point of view, or we would rather easily underestimate other people opinion. I like the story that a while ago, NASA, before they send animals to space, they asked to kindergarden what kind of animals they should bring. The answers were amazing. One of the kid suggested to bring spiders to see how they will make the web on the outer space.
Religion. Religion is not supposed to make people go to heaven, but the most important mission is to bring the heaven to the people. We are sometimes doing something because our religion tell us to do so. And stupidly, we do it. We know that religion is not God, but sometimes we thought we doing something because of God is using religion to tell us what to do and we do it, without using our wisdom, which is acctually God give the wisdom to us to use it.
Are you relying to something reliable?
