by David Sudjiman ~ July 3rd, 2005. Filed under: News.I remember the first time I knew Luther Vandross was when I watched the video clip of Endless Love duet with Mariah Carey. It was Mariah’s time and the great Luther Vandross had to step aside a bit.
The next time I heard about Luther Vandross was from a desperate recommendation of a cousin of mine. OMG, he is one the greatest R&B singer in the history.
His greatest song was probably Dance with my father which I heard it the first time from Australian Idol singer in Hillsong church when it was a Father’s Day. Then I googled, It was The Luther Vandross’ Dance with my father co-written with Richard Marx, sold nearly a million copies in its first month of release that June 2003.
To date, Luther has won eight Grammy Awards. His hits are R&B / Top Ten Single, “Here and Now,” two for Best R&B Song and Best R&B Male Vocal Performance with “Power Of Love / Love Power,” and Best R&B Male Vocal Performance for “Your Secret Love.” In 2000, Luther was honored with a special BET Walk Of Fame tribute and as brilliant performer who is known for his compelling live shows, Luther has consistently toured and enjoyed sold-out shows year in and year out. And, a first for any black male vocalist, Luther’s impressive catalog of fourteen albums have all achieved either platinum or multi-platinum status.
Luther Ronzoni Vandross begun his career as jingles writer and singer. He also made his appearance on ‘Sesame Street’ television series. During his early career, he was a backup singer for David Bowie, Bette Midler and Barbra Streisand.
