Netcraft: ‘Strongest year ever for Internet growth.’

Year 2005 is the strongest year ever with 17.5 million sites added to the web compared to 16 million websites last year.
The Open Source based Web server, Apache, is still making the leading curve to leave Microsoft, Sun, and NCSA behind. This is still a good sign that Open Source software, especially Apache, although it is free, can make more than just good software. Apache has been leading the web server market from year 1996 and now has reached the number 52 million web server compare to only 15 million from Microsoft. Hands down, no contest!
