Ubuntu: It just works!

My first acquaintance with Ubuntu was when I installed my uncle’s computer with Linux, Ubuntu Linux 5.10 (Breezy Badger) to be precise. He had been complaining about viruses and spywares, but not anymore ever since. He likes the new Ubuntu Linux!

Then few hours later, I installed my notebook with Ubuntu, replacing my Debian.

Ubuntu installation was flawless, it even picked up my Wireless, making my touch pad scroll bar works, able to suspend to disk, blank screen, and hibernate. It just works! While I needed few days to get my Debian 3.1 works as Ubuntu did in few minutes.

The things I’m still trying to figure out are the FN+F5 for Wireless. I can easily turn off and on the Wireless yet I have to activate/deactivate my Wireless networking in Ubuntu.

And also when I close the lid, it does not go to hibernate instead it just blanks the screen.

Anyway, I’m very happy with Ubuntu. It just works!

ps. Completing my Ubuntu installation, I used Automatix to get several packages and plugins installed.
