David, Thanks so much for this guide. It helped me to connect to my ASA5505 with a USB-to-Serial and to the serial port in my dock (after reading MichaelJ comment). Minicom is working great! Again, thanks!

Hi, I have minicom working on my OpenSuse 10.3 laptop.
I'd like to know if there is a way to upload a configuration script to the switch with minicom the way I would in Hyperterminal?

Thanks.
Adam

Note that newer ubuntu versions no longer come with the Keyspan USB serial converter binary drivers (blob) pre-compiled into the kernel. Apparently you have to re-compile them in yourself. It works fine on 6.06, is missing in 7.1. If you get a chance be sure to let keyspan know that we'd prefer to be customers of companies that open source their drivers.
