Need More CPU power.
by David Sudjiman ~ February 7th, 2007. Filed under: Catharsis.I was very happy with the existence of dynamips, a router simulator which can load the real Cisco IOS. I can do several labs without having to rewire my router and all I need was only my laptop.
It was a good experience, though. Until I used 7 routers to run BGP + OSPF. It was very slow, too slow indeed. My computer is Thinkpad T41 1.4 G with 2G ram.
I think I need more CPU power. Well, I need money to get a new computer ![]()

I’d check the RAM usage, and the ram limitation on Dynamips first. I’ve found that dynamips isn’t very CPU intensive, it’s just a RAM hog. Of course I’ve never tried it with seven router’s so you’d know better than I would. Just a thought tho.

CPU was 100%, did the cpu-idle as well. I thought this was because an intensive BGP-OSPF state that eat up the CPU power. I put 190MB RAM for each router. Will try to increase the ram and will let you know on weekend.
